Family music CD features national and Philadelphia musicians to benefit the Children With Diabetes Foundation
PHILADELPHIA, PA – May 7, 2007 – Sara Hickman, Willy Porter, They Might Be Giants, Joanie Bartels and Trout Fishing in America are a few of the 17 award-winning artists who contribute their songs to All the Wild Wonders, a new music compilation produced by Philadelphian Kim Alexander to benefit the Children with Diabetes Foundation.
All the Wild Wonders, a family-oriented new music CD that Alexander conceived and created following her young daughter’s Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis, will be released on Tuesday, May 22.
Philadelphia-based artists who contribute original songs for All the Wild Wonders include John Flynn, The Tell Alls, Joseph Parsons, Lauren Hart and members of The Anna Crusis Women’s Choir, among others (see attached track listing). Ten of the CD’s 18 tracks were recorded specifically for this new compilation, which also features a song with lyrics by Jack Prelutsky, America’s first Children’s Poet Laureate.
Alexander, a former Philadelphia radio DJ and music industry publication editor who currently heads up No Macarena DJ and Custom Music Service and sings with Philly retro-country band Hank’s Cadillac, had been interested in creating a music CD that kids and their parents could listen to together when her then-6-year-old daughter, Keely, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in November 2005. Keely was hospitalized at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in order to control her glucose level while her parents got a crash course in diabetes management.
“Keely’s doctors recommended the Children with Diabetes web site, which we found extremely helpful, particularly in the early months of learning to manage diabetes,” said Alexander, “so I wanted to thank them for their good work and support the Foundation.”
A portion of the CD’s proceeds will also go to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. “Because Keely was diagnosed within 30 days of being on a new insurance policy, all insurance payments were denied,” Alexander added.
All the Wild Wonders will be available on Tuesday, May 22 from Main Street Music (4444 Main Street in Manayunk) and online from MoreThanCards
